The travel begins in the Rodrigues Island: a sanctuary for tortoise (in the past this island had a great number of tortoises but their population vanished).Not far a region of naturals caves.Inthe east and south beautiful landscapes of beaches.Rodigues has a population of 35.000 inhabitants: the island has received an autonomy status from the main island Mauritius.the main economical activities are agriculture, fishing and handcrafts.In the south of the island there a big lagoon and the island of Coco , a natural protected area.The main town of Rodrigues is Port Mathurin, a town where the people enjoy music (European music but also sega).Then we leave Rodrigues and arrive at Mauritius: Port Louis is the main town.A little visit to the horse races (people enjoy betting on horses).Then we go to the central market where we can see all the agricultural products or eat "sambuzas" and "dalpuris".In the center of the island (at above 550 meters above sea level there is the town of Cure-pipe,After an large disease of malaria the important people of Port Louis moved to this fresh place.People of this town are specialized in the cutting of diamonds.Then we go southwards to Tamarin; a place for fishing and also surfing.Following the Rivière Noire we arrive at Camarel, the ground with the seven colors.Later a rum distillery and a good explanation about the sugar cane production.In a first time the producers imported African slaves for the works in the plantation, later they looked for Indian workers.We also visit a tea plantation where a great part of the production (tea with lemon, ginger, cinnamon) is for local use.The travel goes on in the eastern coast where tourism is not so developed.A visit of botanical garden of Pamplemousses and of the town of Grande Baie (fishing activities) and to the north of the island to the Cap Malheureux where we see fishermen selling their fishes on the beach.
